Adventures in house sitting.

During the week between Christmas and New Year's I house sat for my Dad's cousin and her husband. They have a gorgeous house out on Lake Samish, 10 minutes south of Bellingham. I got to get aquainted with the house for an hour or so the week before when I stopped by for dinner and to just get notes on all I was to do while they were gone on vacation.

This is what went wrong.
* the dog peed 4 times on the carpet in the room I was staying in
* I blew an outlet/fuse/breaker thing that also lit the outlet on fire for 5 secs
* I drank a whole pot of coffee which led to me staying up until 4am one night thinking that their downstairs tenant might be a mass murderer. (results of an overactive imagination)
* I couldn't figure out how to turn on the heat, so I was really cold most of the time I was there.
* I couldn't find anything in the kitchen, and couldn't figure out how to turn on the stove
This is what went right:
* I got to hang out in a huge beautiful house right on the lake with a gorgeous short walk down to the lakeside and private dock.
*this was after moving all the big furniture out of my apt.. so I got to sleep in a bed, not on the floor.

All in all it was a fun experience, and since I had a place to stay I was able to fully move out of my apartment much easier.

I just went to a Mariners game yesterday in seattle. It's the first time in 10 years that I've been to a pro sports game. (pro? obviously I don't know that much about sports) Anyways. It was awesome, yeah the game itself was a little slow in that the only runs scored were in the 7th inning, and then that was it... I think my favorite part was the people i was with. I went with my friend Becky, her husband Jake, and his brother Caleb and our friend Michael (stumbo). There are the vendors who yell "Peanuts! get your Peanuts!" So the boys were yelling things like "life insurance! get your life insurance" "room temperature water!" "hot ice! get your hot ice!" I think my favorite line came from an actual vendor tho that yelled, "cotton candy! last call for cotton candy!".... like you can't get cotton candy way late in the game cause they're scared you'll get all sugar high and become belligerent. Okay that's all.

I just bought an Iphone 4. There have been many rumors about how it's not that great. But I just had to have it. My old 3GS was cracked all up on the screen and I was tired of people everyday going "oh my goodness! what happened to your phone?!?!" well obviously I dropped it. DUH. So i ordered the 4 through ATT and they said 5-10 business days. Alright, I can wait... then it shows up at the store and I pick it up before work and they change my service to the new sim card and tell me it'll be working within a half hour... so I go to work and I wait and I wait.... and nothing happens... SO I go back to the ATT store (mind you this is a 20 min drive each time) and the guy tried a new sim card... to no avail. In fact he tries 2 more just to make sure. again. no. good. So he tells me to go home, restore it, and bring it back the next day.. So I did just that and got to talk to a new sales rep who tried one sim card hands the phone back and says "yeah that's not our problem you're gonna have to go to apple in lynwood" I left and almost started crying, ridiculous yes, but I was so frustrated. So the next day I drive the hour ten to lynwood and swap phones, the apple guy at the genius bar said "it'll only take like 10 minutes and you'll be good to go" so I thank him and leave thinking everything was good. I drive all the way back to bellingham and the phone is still not working, but by this time I have to go to work... so I work all day then at 7:30 head back out to the ATT store, I get helped by a different guy who got my phone working and made me laugh with stories of him giving his roommates haircuts, which made my day better, SO after 4 trips to ATT and one trip to apple I have a new Iphone 4 and I like it. despite all the frustration and effort.

I got to slow dance in the rain last night. I've always wanted to. So a friend and I left the Up and went outside and slow danced while humming to ourselves. Sure we got a few weird looks and when I went back in the bar I was drenched. But it was totally worth it. It rained so hard last night, like a complete downpour. It was incredible. On the walk home I took off my jacket and just let the rain soak me. Then I did a little spinning dance in front of my apartment. By the time I made it up the stairs I looked as if I had taken a shower in my clothes. Sometimes I just love this weather. Bring on the lightning and the thunder and the rain and the dancing.

So. I was talking to a friend the other night, and she was talking about her parents.. about how much she likes them... and I took a second for myself and thought... Yeah. I have the coolest parents ever. So they no longer support me.. (by which I mean send me money every month or pay car or health insurance..) BUT. When I need financial help they pull through. Growing up I thought I had the most strictest parents one could ever have.. but now that I have grown up a little (okay well maybe not..) Now that I'm older I realize how amazing they are. They are funny, and full of life, they are young and young at heart, they have plans and lives all their own (which I never realized until they weren't at home all the time to answer my calls every moment of the day).. One of my most favorite things... they are always there for me. Mom and Dad are two of the most incredible people I have ever known.. and can ever hope to know. They keep it real. Gangsta style. Plus I kind of like the kids they raised. Woot.

So I beginning to wonder if this is what dying feels like. I have had a serious case of man voice since December.. it is now the middle of march. I currently have no voice.. it kind of sounds like I am going through puberty. I also have a re-occuring headache that hurts even worse when I cough. Oh yes, I have a cough and a runny nose and my body aches, so whenever anyone tries to hug me to make me feel better I only feel worse. On top of that I had to work yesterday, I also have to work today. I work with the public. I wonder how many people I have gotten sick. Hmmm. I called in to work to tell them I couldn't come in at all. (I'm not even sure if she could hear me...) and She told me to switch shifts with the manager who did not answer and probs won't return my phone call. So. Now I have to call work back and tell them again that I can't come in, and I don't know what to do.

Valentine's day is probs my least favorite holiday... (all that awkwardness of should I make a big deal out of today.. will he make a big deal out of today.. are we even dating?... is this day making me feel more lonely?... etc.) but I can honestly say that yesterday was not as horrible as I thought it would be. I worked all day and part way through Cara brought me a rose and asked me to be her valentine... then after work our friends all got together and we celebrated by dancing (and singing at the tops of our lungs) to 90's love songs, you know, dancing in that really awkward way like in middle or high school. Our pre-party, before we went out, was only supposed to go till 10ish.. we stayed at cara's until 12:30 before going out dancing! Then we took decorations off the walls. She had put up these pink construction paper hearts and so we all pinned them to ourselves and left the building. On our walk to Rumors (to dance) One of the guys gave his heart to a cop, I gave mine to the door man, and cara gave hers to the bartender. We then danced on stage until the bar was closing.. while dancing I even crawled through one of the guys legs... I can get pretty carried away. After that was over we went and got Pitas. All in all I think yesterday was a success.. maybe I won't dread it so much next year.
